HIGH FUNCTIONING MEDIUM: Virginia Review - Deep State of the Mind

Virginia released in 2016 and was developer Variable State's first game. Set in the city of Kingdom, we play as new FBI agent Anne Tarver, who's tasked with keeping an eye on her new partner Maria Halperin as they try and solve a missing persons' case. The story that ensues is filled with corruption, crime, and paranoia, and friendships are tested even as they're being built, sometimes the point of breaking. Virginia's real claim to fame is it's presentation, with BAFTA winning music by Lyndon Holland and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra which scored David Lynch's Lost Highway and Muholland Drive. And Lynch inspires much of the dream sequences and freaky stuff that goes on, but it's very possible there's too much going on in here in this ambitious game with no dialogue, just music and sound effects. Check out how well it fares within!
