While many believe that the villagers of Resident Evil 4 adhered to Catholicism (or something close to it) before the resurgence of the Los Illuminados Cult, some fascinating details of the RE4 Prequel Book (Biohazard 4 Incubate) suggest that the villagers practiced a religion inspired by real-world Celtic paganism. The eighth passage of the book alludes to 3-4 key practices that align with the "Beltane" festival of pagan belief (also known as May Day). This adds a new level of depth to Resident Evil 4's world-building, as the culture seems to resemble a remnant pagan commune that only partially adopted Catholic ideas (and would be overtaken by the return of Los Illuminados, through Saddler's manipulation just before the events of RE4). It only begs the question: will these world-building elements be preserved and even added to in the Resident Evil 4 Remake?
